Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get on the old campus?

The only opportunity is to sign up for the tour held during the All-Class Reunion. The grounds and buildings belong to the Federal Prison system. They have been kind enough to allow us to hold tours in conjunction with our All-Class Reunions; they are under no obligation to do so. You may drive the public roads that surround the campus and look, but they ask that you refrain from taking any pictures. You may purchase 4"x6" views of the buildings from the YC office.

Where / how can I get a copy of my transcript?

The YC office continues to hold all transcripts. Student records are confidential and issued only upon the signed request of the student; you may see your own transcript. To order copies, we need the following:
- your social security number and date of birth
- maiden & all married names
- approximate year(s) attended
- a phone number where we may contact you if there is any problem
- your signature on the request
- $5 per copy
Transcripts may be sent to you or to an address you provide.

We also have the teaching credential files created for those that took education classes and practice taught. Credential files are confidential and you may not have or see your file. If you request, we can provide you with a list of the individuals that provided the recommendations in your file. There is also a procedure for adding new recommendations. If you need your teaching credentials sent, the fee is $5 per set.

Transcripts are usually sent out within 3 business days of our receipt of your request. Fees for transcripts/credentials may NOT be charged to a credit card.

FYI-Yankton College was fully accredited through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools through August 1985. Verification of this may be found by a search at their website: www.ncahlc.org

Can I get a copy of my diploma?

Unfortunately, no. Diplomas contain the signatures of the college officials at the time of your graduation. Copies of the actual diplomas were not kept and the signatures would now be impossible to obtain.

Can I get a copy of my yearbook?

Probably! We still have unused copies of most of the yearbooks. Contact the office to find out about the availability of your year. Cost is $10 + the cost of shipping.

I'm trying to find an old friend/teacher...

Call or email the office and we will be happy to provide you with whatever information we have. Some former faculty and staff have continued to maintain contact with YC, some have not. You may also post a request on the Bulletin Board in case other alums have information.

I have a bunch of old YC stuff that I need to get rid of-do you really want it?

Yes!! We appreciate having any 1990 or earlier, Yankton College (or Yankton) materials that you no longer want. We also accept materials related to famous or significant alumni and staff/faculty. Duplicates are fine-we can use items for display as well as archival and research purposes.
